Craft an Advent Wreath

"Advent, Advent ein Lichtlein brennt..."

We all took immense delight in lighting candles when we were children. Especially when the candles were on the Advent wreath! Because with every candle that is lit, Christmas draws a little closer, and with it the day when Baby Jesus comes. Steffi and Moni have another super idea to make your Advent wreath quite different this year. Watch the video. We tell you what you need for crafting and how to do it here. Have fun and have a lovely Advent!

You need that

  • 4 wine glasses
  • Strong white cardboard
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Temporary Glue
  • Snowy Fir Trees
  • Sheet of paper
  • Mini figures
  • Snowflakes
  • 4 candles
  • Advent Ornaments

01
1. Cut out bases for mini landscapes
First off, we need a cardboard base for each wine glass. The little winter landscapes will be created from them later. To make matching lids, first place the wine glass on a piece of sturdy white cardboard and use a pencil to trace the rim of the glass. Then cut the lid out of the card with scissors. Repeat the whole process four times.
02
2. Design a mini landscape with a fir tree

We now come to the fun part where the bases are decorated with little winter landscapes. You can let your imagination run wild. Also, you have four wine glasses that are all supposed to have a small landscape, so you can play around a bit. And off we go: for our first landscape, which we’d like to show you here as an example, we got hold of a "Snowy Fir Tree". This is glued in the middle of the base. Tip: be sure to try out beforehand whether the height of the fir tree will later fit into the wine glass!

03
3. Decorate mini landscapes with a snowy hill and figures
As well as the fir tree, a small snowy hill is to be created. You can easily make this yourself by slightly scrunching up a piece of printer paper and then sticking it on the base. We stick a few mini figures on the snowy hill as well as next to it. Yippee! The children are riding their sledges down the paper hill. In our NOCH kreativ range, you’ll find many different mini figures fitting to wintery and Christmassy mini landscapes. It’s important to let the four little landscapes dry before you keep crafting. The glue must have set.
04
4. Fill the wine glasses with snow
In the meantime, you can prepare the wine glasses: cut open the bag of Snowflakes from NOCH kreativ and fill each glass with about one to two fingers of them. Tap against it two or three times until all the snowflakes have collected at the bottom of the wine glass.
05
5. Coat the mini landscapes with glue
After your little landscapes have dried, coat the edge of the bases with NOCH Temporary Glue. What’s special about our glue is that it is rubbery when dry and therefore can be removed from the wine glasses later without leaving any residue. This means you can turn your Advent wreath back into four normal wine glasses shortly after Christmas, which you can then fill with drinks again in time for New Year’s Eve. A super flexible and creative adhesive with which you can craft a new Advent wreath every year! The paper hill and the ground around the fir tree are also coated with glue.
06
6. Glue the mini landscapes onto the wine glasses
Now the landscape is placed on top of the wine glass as a "lid", so to speak. When doing this, it’s important to use Temporary Glue around the rim of the wine glass to avoid any Snowflakes drifting out of the glass later on.
07
7. Shake the snow like a bartender
As soon as the lid is neatly on the wine glass, shake the glass back and forth like a bartender mixing a cocktail. This spreads the Snowflakes over the landscape and a few stick to the side of the wine glass like small frost patterns on a window – a fab effect!
08
8. The finishing touches
Now place the wine glasses with their bases upwards, for example, on a slate board or just directly on the table. Apply a decent amount of Temporary Glue to the bases of the wine glasses, which are now on top, and attach the candles in this way. These can also be removed again later so that the wine glasses can be used for drinking again. Finally, attach a tag to each wine glass stem so that you know which candle to burn on which day of Advent.
